Fri 12th OCT - Solving Simultaneous equations and Linear Inequalities

LEARNING OBJECTIVE: To review methods for solving linear equations and linear inequalities
SUCCESS CRITERIA: You will be able to solve  simultaneous equations using Elimination and substitution methods, You will be able to solve linear/quadratic equations using substitution methods
You will be bale to solve linear inequalities using similar methods you are aware of for solving equations

LESSON: Examples to work through on IWB demonstrating both elimination and substitution methods:

  1. 2x + 3y = 8, 3x - y =23
  2. 4x - 5y = 4, 6x + 2y = 25
  3. 2x - y = 1, 4x + 2y = -30
  4. x + 2y = 3, x2 + 3xy = 10
  5. 3x - 2y = 1, x2 +y2 = 25
HOMEWORK FOR FRIDAY 19th OCT Ex 3A, 3B, 3C

Examples of solving linear inequalities or pairs of linear equations
  1. 2x - 5 < 7
  2. 6x + 9 ≥ x + 20
  3. 12 - 3x < 27
  4. 3(x - 5) > 5 - 2(x - 8)
  5. 3x - 5 < x + 8 and 5x > x - 8
  6. x - 5 > 1 - x and 15 - 3x > 5 + 2x
  7. 4x + 7 > 3 and 17 < 11 + 2x
